Kim Irvine, Leota Toombs Honored with Main Street Window at Disneyland

Ahead of Kim Irvine’s induction into the already exclusive Disney Legends club later this year, Disney has unveiled a Main Street, U.S.A. window honoring the Imagineer and her mother, Leota Toombs – also an Imagineer and Disney Legend.

The window is located above the Crystal Arts shop. It lists both of their names, along with a message that leans fully into the Haunted Mansion: “Summoning the spirits of creativity… on windows, doors, and… regions beyond!” It also gives the duo an on-theme title: “Artists, Glaziers, Design Mediums.”

It’s an appropriate vibe. Toombs was the face of Madame Leota, both the floating head inside the crystal ball and the “Little Leota” at the end of the ride that urges guests to “hurry back.” She also provided the voice for the latter. Irvine has a great story about how her mom ended up inside that crystal ball:

“When Yale Gracey was experimenting with ideas for a gypsy in a crystal ball, he asked Leota if she would mind posing for the head. They were a close-knit group, and Mom said she thought it sounded fun. Blaine [Gibson] made a life mask of her face and Yale, Wathel [Rogers] and the rest of the team filmed her, crazy makeup and all. I still remember when she wore it home that night! Then they created the ‘Little Leota’ bride at the end of the ride. Since that figure is small, they wanted a high voice, so they kept mom’s voice because she sounded like a little girl.”

Toombs also contributed to “it’s a small world,” Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Kim Irvine’s career was equally impressive, which ended just last year. Like her mom, she worked on “it’s a small world.” Then she spent the next 50+ years helping shape Disneyland, eventually becoming Executive Creative Director for Walt Disney Imagineering in Anaheim. Her projects included Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante, the Disneyland Dream Suite, Club 33 expansions, Jolly Holiday Bakery Café, and multiple Sleeping Beauty Castle refurbishments.

Kim Irvine will be recognized as a Disney Legend at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 on August 16 in Anaheim. But getting a Main Street window with her mom? That’s a much more exclusive club.
