Jon Favreau Bringing Oswald to Disney+
Jon Favreau is creating an Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series for Disney+, serving as both writer and producer. According to Deadline, the series will feature a blend of live action and animation. Though Favreau has been involved in numerous Disney projects as a director, writer, or producer, this one holds special significance. Oswald is a cherished part of Disney history. Walt Disney created the character in 1927, only to lose him to Universal a year later. In 2006, Disney reacquired Oswald when Bob Iger negotiated his return in exchange for Al Michaels moving from ABC to NBC.
Favreau is responsible for some of Disney’s best content of the past decade. His live-action remake of The Jungle Book was exceptional. He breathed new life into Star Wars with The Mandalorian. And he played a vital role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to a report, the Oswald series could be the start of a Mickey Mouse rebirth:

Although Disney revived Oswald in an animated short for the company’s 100th anniversary, a Disney+ series could give him the spotlight he deserves.
Losing Oswald was a tough blow for Walt Disney, who resolved to never relinquish control of his characters again. Fortunately for us, that loss led to the creation of Mickey Mouse. Now, after nearly a century, Oswald is finally getting his moment, offering a glimpse of what might have been if not for some shady business dealings 97 years ago. I can’t wait to see what Favreau brings to the table.
