Finishing Details Enhance Puss in Boots Del Mar Theming at Universal Kids Resort

Puss in Boots Del Mar is shaping up to be one of the standout lands at Universal Kids Resort. That point was driven home this week when crews removed scaffolding from the Puss in Boots Theater, home to Mama Luna’s Adopt a Kitty Day. The building and several surrounding facades now feel like they belong in a Spanish seaside village.

The Spanish Mission–inspired architecture has been mostly in place for months. The theater facade was originally unveiled with flat white stucco paint and minimal accents. It was missing molding and other elements featured in the concept art, so we weren’t surprised when the scaffolding went up a second time.

Now we can see what phase two was for. Crews added mottled paint treatments, ornate filigree, domes, spires, wrought iron details, and layered textures that give the buildings depth and age. The terra cottas, creams, and blues no longer look freshly painted. They look sunbaked and weathered, like this town has existed for generations along the coast of Andalusia, Spain – the inspiration for Del Mar.

Of the seven lands at Universal Kids Resort, this is the one that feels the most immersive. Well, for adults, at least. Bikini Bottom, Minions, and Trolls all lean into bright, exaggerated theming that perfectly fits the park’s target audience. But Del Mar feels designed for parents, too. It’ll be a beacon for exhausted adults.

I can already picture it: warm sunset lighting, music drifting through the village, and a cold drink in hand. A well-earned reward for parents after hours of chaperoning their kids from splash pad to playground and back again.
