Disney World Railroad Becomes Two-Stop Shuttle Once Frontierland Work Begins

Starting July 7, the Walt Disney World Railroad will only operate between the Fantasyland and Main Street stations. The modified operation is necessary due to construction in the northwest corner of Magic Kingdom. That construction begins with the draining of Rivers of America before culminating with new Cars- and villains-themed lands. Here’s Disney’s announcement:

“To make way for the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be operating under a modified route that excludes Frontierland station beginning July 7. The attraction will operate as a shuttle between Main Street station and Fantasyland station only.”

This shuttle service might seem odd for a steam locomotive, but it’s preferable to the alternative. The Disney World Railroad was dormant for years while TRON was under construction. And if you don’t want to ride backwards, Disney has you covered. They plan to rotate several benches so you can face the direction the train is headed.

The only downside to this is riders won’t experience the entire Magic Kingdom loop, so we’ll miss out on views like this.
