Disney Turns to Florida Business to Build Tiana’s Foods Water Tower

Disney Imagineering collaborated with many New Orleans-based artists and musicians to help create Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. They turned to a Florida business, Icarus Exhibits, to build the iconic Tiana’s Foods water tower.

Icarus has a long history with the Walt Disney Company. They’ve contributed to Disney World attractions since the 1990s when they first worked with Magic Kingdom Imagineers. Recently, they created the larger-than-life characters in Toy Story Land, the TRON Lightcycle found near the ride’s exit, and one of the speeders in Galaxy’s Edge.

“Whenever we’re creating new experiences, we frequently work with trusted and valued industry leaders like Icarus. That was no different for the construction of the beautiful water tower at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. I’ve had the privilege of working with Icarus for more than two decades now, and their work as a longtime collaborator never ceases to amaze me.”

For Tiana’s, the company was tasked with bringing the Imagineers’ design to life. The 32-foot tower needs to welcome guests to a Mardi Gras celebration. The structure includes the Tiana’s Foods logo and special nods to characters from The Princess and the Frog. It’s capped with a sparkling tiara.

Icarus employees are proud of their work. “There’s an immense sense of pride to know that you’ve built it,” said Icarus co-owner Mark Ireland. Drayton Knox, the other co-owner, acknowledged what most Disney fans can only dream of: “Any time we work on anything at the park, it’s special. Working on an attraction like Tiana’s is really cool.”

Jennifer Smith, Icarus’ General Manager, is a former Imagineer. She loves collaborating with her former colleagues. “My combined past of working for Disney and working with Icarus definitely helped prepare me for my role at Icarus today, as I have a deep understanding and respect for both sides of the work.”

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure officially debuts on June 28, 2024, in Walt Disney World. It opens later this year in Disneyland.
