Disney Reveals Psychedelic Guitar for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets
Yesterday, crews finally pulled back the curtain on the psychedelic paint job covering the giant Fender Stratocaster outside Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets. For once, I was actually at Walt Disney World for one of these reveals, just in the wrong park.
After hearing about it, I hustled over to Hollywood Studios on Monday evening, squeezed in a few dozen shots, then ran off to dinner at 50’s Prime Time Café. I wasn’t going to sacrifice that fried chicken just to take a few more pics. So I came back Tuesday morning to do it properly.
I’m glad I did. Overnight, crews removed the scaffolding, letting me get clean shots of the mostly complete guitar. Construction walls still block the bottom portion and the keyboard, and the ride’s name hasn’t been installed on the left side yet. But today’s photos provide a pretty good representation of what fans will experience when walking through those G-Force Records gates when the updated ride officially debuts on May 26.
That look doesn’t entirely line up with Disney concept art. While the vibe is the same, the paint has some significant differences. The concept art shows a bold red shade surrounding the pickguard (the large white plastic piece that covers a majority of the guitar’s body). In reality, that area is filled with pink and blue swatches.
My take? Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem aren’t subtle. So Imagineering leaned into that aesthetic with less restraint, more chaos. Personally, I could’ve done with dialing back the pink a notch, but the overall look works.
The G-Force Records building facade also got a refresh. The tans from its Aerosmith days are gone, replaced with shades of dark gray. The new palette lets the guitar do the heavy lifting, allowing it to pop. Only one patch of the original tan is left, in a corner behind the guitar’s neck.
That same gray carries over to the entrance arch. Underneath it, the Cadillac is now fully painted in the same psychedelic style. I grabbed a few shots, but honestly, that car deserves its own article. I’ll get to it eventually, but hey, I’m on vacation.
Up next, we expect crews to add “The Muppets” to the archway, the attraction name to the guitar, and a giant Muppets poster on the building facade. Maybe some of that will happen while I’m in town…
