Disney Reveals Cars Ride Concept Footage

Update: Disney has confirmed the Cars ride will not be trackless.

Earlier today at the D23 Brazil Expo, Disney shared footage of a ride concept for the Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom. The video shows all-terrain vehicles navigating a dirt track filled with plenty of bumps and tight turns. It confirms that Disney is moving forward with a trackless ride system. While that ride system isn’t new to Disney (Rise of the Resistance, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters), the rugged terrain certainly is.

We need to take this video with a grain of salt. Disney is testing the concept, not presenting the final attraction. There’s zero chance it will be operated on a dirt track. Vehicle maintenance would be a nightmare. And I’m sure riders wouldn’t appreciate having to clean mud off their Mickey Ears after a storm. Instead, Disney Imagineers will do what they do best by creating the illusion that you’re bouncing over rugged mountain terrain. No dirt required.

Disney announced Magic Kingdom’s Cars-themed land at the D23 Expo this past summer. While we’re excited about the new land and rides, it means we have to say goodbye to Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
