Disney Is Retiring the Play Disney Parks App

Disney is retiring the Play Disney Parks app. The app, which lets guests enjoy interactive experiences while exploring Disneyland and Walt Disney World, will be removed from app stores on September 16, 2026.

At least one Play Disney game will survive. Sort of. Guests visiting Galaxy’s Edge will still be able to play Batuu Bounty Hunters, just without the app component. Instead, they’ll have to rely on their MagicBand+ and screens throughout the land.

Gustin also asked Disney for clarity on the popular DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at EPCOT. The company didn’t provide any. That game has been unavailable for the last few weeks.

We can’t say we’re surprised by this move. Last May, Bloomberg reported that Disney was looking to consolidate its many apps into one super app. During an earnings call, Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro seemed to confirm that direction:

“Disney is uniquely positioned in the entertainment industry – no other company reaches consumers to the same degree across both digital and physical environments. Our goal is to leverage that position to extend our reach, deepen engagement, and generate greater value from our world-class intellectual property. To fully capture this opportunity, we will embrace technology more aggressively and build a more connected consumer experience, with Disney+ right at the center.”

By consolidating its apps, D’Amaro hopes to break down some of the divisions within the company and create a one-stop destination for customers.

But that doesn’t appear to be what’s happening with Play Disney Parks. Gustin urged users to log in and save their achievements before the app goes dark next month. So, at least for now, it appears the Play Disney games won’t simply be folded into the My Disney Experience or Disneyland apps.
