Disney Destiny Sails Down the Ems River, Arrives in the Netherlands
Early this morning, the Disney Destiny set sail from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg on its journey to Eemshaven, the Netherlands. The newest addition to Disney Cruise Line’s fleet has now arrived in the Dutch port city, where it will undergo final outfitting before heading out for sea trials in the North Sea.
Meyer Werft shared the schedule of the Destiny’s first voyage, which began just before midnight local time.

Saturday, 20 September 2025
- Approx. 12:00 a.m. Passing through the dock lock (Papenburg)
- Approx. 4:00-4:30 a.m. Passing the Friesenbrücke bridge (Weener)
- Approx. 7:00–8:00 a.m. Passing the Jann-Berghaus Bridge (Leer)
- Approx. 11:30 a.m. Arrival at the Ems barrage (Gandersum)
- Approx. 12:30 p.m. Passing the Ems barrage
- Approx. 2:30 p.m. Passing Emden
The Destiny traveled backwards on the Ems River, assisted by two tugs. According to Meyer Werft, that position offers better maneuverability. Emden Pilot Brotherhood, experts in piloting cruise ships on the Ems, handled the transfer.
Following sea trials, Disney’s newest ship will cross the Atlantic later this fall. The Destiny, along with its many heroes and villains, will set sail on its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades on November 20, 2025.
