Crews Begin Removing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Track

There has been widespread speculation that Magic Kingdom’s Big Mountain Thunder Railroad would receive a new track during its extensive refurbishment. A video posted by Scott Gustin on X seems to confirm those assumptions.

This is great to see for two reasons. First, my older body appreciates smooth coasters. No, Big Thunder will never be a gentle ride, but a new track will go a long way toward smoothing out many of the ride’s rough spots. And two, Disney is moving fast! We saw the same kind of speed Splash Mountain closed in 2023. Disney fans used to long, drawn-out construction projects should be happy with the speed Imagineers are tackling these projects.

That being said, we’ll have to wait until 2026 to enjoy Big Thunder’s new track and other upgrades. Until then, feel free to wear those hats and glasses in Frontierland.
