Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Getting New Trains
Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is officially getting new trains. The confirmation came from Wyatt Winter, an Executive Producer with Walt Disney Imagineering, during an appearance on Good Morning America.
The news isn’t suprising, especially considering the coaster’s refurbishment includes an all-new track. But it’s nice to get the confirmation. New track plus old trains would’ve been a strange choice, even by runaway mine train standards.

Disney has previously teased that Big Thunder would feature “new magic for fans to discover,” and Winter added some context. According to him, guests might actually discover gold on the mountain. He also confirmed that every Audio-Animatronic is being refreshed, and long-dormant effects are finally coming back online.
If you want a deeper dive into what’s coming, including the Rainbow Caverns and an updated Barnabas T. Bullion storyline, check out our story from last August.
Between new trains, a rebuilt track, refreshed animatronics, and restored effects, Big Thunder Mountain’s update has us excited.
