Balfour Beatty Listed on New Piston Peak Permit at Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a Notice of Commencement for Piston Peak in Magic Kingdom. The permit doesn’t reveal anything about the scope of work for the Frontierland expansion, but it is notable. Balfour Beatty is listed as the contractor.

Until now, work in the former Rivers of America has focused on clearing the site. Crews have been busy draining the river and razing Tom Sawyer Island since the attractions closed last July. With Balfour Beatty now attached and tasked with “general construction,” the project looks to be shifting from site prep to vertical construction.

When complete, Piston Peak will take on the look of a national park, with rockwork, waterfalls, and geysers. Blended into the landscape will be structures inspired by the lodge seen in Planes: Fire & Rescue.

Balfour Beatty is no stranger to Central Florida. The firm has worked with Disney for years. They’re also serving as the general contractor for Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, which opens soon.
