Astro Orbiter Ride, Planets Return to Tomorrowland

Astro Orbiter is once again complete. The rocket spinner and its revitalized planets have returned to Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. And thankfully, our good friend Kevin was there to snap some beautiful photos.

Astro Orbiter closed on January 13 for a somewhat lengthy refurbishment. Disney has been tight-lipped with reopening details, only saying it will happen sometime this summer. With Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closing for a refurb in August, we think the flyer will be ready sooner rather than later. We expect ride testing to begin soon.

Kevin also spotted some Tomorrowland pavement work while riding the PeopleMover. The Cool Ship has been removed. Disney has this to say about the update: “Cool Ship is temporarily closed for refurbishment and is expected to reopen later this year.”

Astro Orbiter is our favorite Disney aerial flyer. Yes, it’s a pain to load, but the Magic Kingdom views are worth it. Unfortunately, not everyone can ride. Read Mariann’s accessibility review to learn more.
