Animal Kingdom Lodge Welcomes Rüppell’s Griffon Vulture Chick

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has a new baby! Lyra, a Rüppell’s griffon vulture chick, hatched this past January. Dr. Mark shared the news on Instagram:

Meet Lyra, the newest addition to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – a Rüppell’s griffon vulture! Our animal care experts have been closely monitoring her from the moment she was an egg, and continue to support her as she grows. Both parents, John and Janet, have been nurturing Lyra with great care. This birth is especially significant, as Rüppell’s griffon vultures are critically endangered in the wild. Keep an eye out for these magnificent birds during your next visit!

Lyra’s egg was closely monitored by Disney’s animal care team throughout its two-month incubation. Rüppell’s griffon vultures are critically endangered, so everyone is invested in Lyra’s well-being.

We’ll look for Lyra, Janet, and John when we visit Animal Kingdom Lodge’s savannas later this month.
