Cars fans should book a Hollywood Studios trip sooner rather than later. A Disney Villians-themed show will soon replace Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. The live production debuts next summer at Sunset Showcase.

“The creative minds at Disney Live Entertainment will transform Sunset Showcase into the mysterious, reflective realm of the Magic Mirror. The show will feature appearances by dozens of the most infamous evildoers, with fiendish foes Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent each breaking through the glass to take the stage in live production numbers.”

Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy in Hollywood Studios

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy never drew crowds in Hollywood Studios. Even though our son watched the original movie on repeat when he was younger, he was underwhelmed with the show. If it didn’t appeal to his demographic, I can’t imagine many fans being upset with this change. Villains always score big, so I expect the far end of Sunset Boulevard to get a lot more crowded starting next summer.

Disney advises fans to take in Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy before October 7.
