Test Track 3.0: Accessibility Considerations for EPCOT’s Revamped Ride

Test Track 3.0: Accessibility Considerations for EPCOT's Revamped Ride

Test Track 3.0 is a fun-filled update to a classic EPCOT attraction. Derek, Noah, and I had the opportunity to ride the reimagined attraction during Annual Passholder previews and enjoyed it! There are, however, some accessibility considerations to keep in mind before riding.

Consideration: ride preparation, appropriateness, & safety

Test Track 3.0 is an exciting, high-speed ride with lots of acceleration, braking, quick turns, and intense sensory input. It is not appropriate and potentially unsafe for riders with limited ability to control and stabilize their upper body. This ride may also be challenging for individuals who struggle with motion sickness. I suggest watching POV videos of the ride beforehand if you’re unsure whether it’s safe or suitable for you or someone in your group.

Consideration: physical accessibility & transferring

Guests must transfer from ECVs or wheelchairs to enter the ride vehicle. The ride’s queue may be challenging to navigate in bariatric wheelchairs. Individuals who use bariatric wheelchairs should check with a Cast Member (CM) before entering the line.

I believe Walt Disney World missed an opportunity to add accessible cars to Test Track during the 3.0 remodel. I truly hope that they consider doing so in the future, even if it requires more resources. Increasing physical accessibility in future ride refurbishments makes the Disney magic available to more guests. Imagineers are creating amazing experiences. Wouldn’t it make sense for as many guests as possible to get to enjoy them?

Consideration: preparing for weather-related closures

Test Track 3.0 is partially outdoors and, as a result, is subject to weather-related closures. If someone in your party is heavily dependent on routines and may be upset by this, it may be helpful to prepare them in advance. One way to do this is through social stories. This can be as easy as an “if-then” conversation:

“If Test Track 3.0 is closed for weather, then we will come back to the line when it reopens.”

If Test Track is a favorite attraction, consider creating a printed social story to help prepare for and explain the experience in advance. Depending on the individual, reviewing it before entering the park and again when getting in line may help avoid any potential concerns. This can be a one-page printout or a full story using favorite characters. I shared an example of a social story in my Tiana’s Bayou Adventure review.

Test Track 3.0 can be added through the Disability Access Service (DAS) option in the My Disney Experience app. You will enter the ride queue through the Lightning Lane entrance. Rider swap is also available.

Summary

Test Track 3.0 is an exciting re-imagining of one of my family’s favorite rides at Epcot. There are a few accessibility concerns, and Test Track 3.0 will not be appropriate for all riders. It is, overall, a welcome and relatively accessible addition to Epcot!
