See How Imagineers Reimagined Adventureland’s Walkways
Imagine someone timed you while you tried to paint a masterpiece. Or compose a symphony. Or write an article about breaking Epic Universe news. Creativity and deadlines aren’t the best companions. But that’s exactly what Imagineers were up against when they repaved Adventureland’s walkways in Magic Kingdom earlier this year.
Disney Imagineering shared footage of one of the nighttime concrete pours on YouTube. In it, we see crews using wagon wheels, footprint stamps, stones, and other tools to create immersive paths through the land. Jim Casey, a Senior Production Designer, explained how time is of the essence: “Every decision you make is literally set in stone. There’s no time for messing around or second-guessing yourself.”
Art on a schedule. It’s gotta be equal parts exhilarating and terrifying!

Crews began by carving large cracks before adding stones, animal footprints, and wheel ruts. Casey said Imagineers studied animals to make those footprints authentic. He also spoke about the importance of telling a story with the updated walkways:
“We try to think of the story like, what would the wagon do where they would be pulling the wagon, and somebody might walk in front of them? And then all the wagon wheels are not perfectly straight, because burros kind of walk in a crooked fashion. So you try to think of all that so when the people come through … they are totally immersed in the environment, and they feel like there are other people here that are part of the story.”
