Disney Treasure Rescues Four People From Sinking Catamaran

We’re used to seeing news about Disney’s newest cruise ship, but not like this. The Disney Treasure rescued four people from a sinking catamaran near Bermuda on Sunday. The ship, currently sailing across the Atlantic on a repositioning cruise, responded to a distress call at 8:30 Sunday morning. The Serenity, a 50-foot catamaran, was taking on water 265 miles from Bermuda. The Coast Guard alerted all nearby vessels. Fortunately, the Treasure was only 80 miles away and was able to offer assistance.

As seen above, the Treasure launched a lifeboat to save the catamaran’s passengers. “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety,” Treasure Captain Marco Nogara said.

The Serenity’s crew used a bilge pump to keep the boat afloat, but that was only a short-term measure. The Treasure is scheduled to arrive in Port Canaveral on Tuesday.
