Disney Files Permit for Work on Tomorrowland Bridge at Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World has filed a Notice of Commencement permit for 1324 Magic Kingdom Dr., better known as the Tomorrowland Bridge. The filing comes from Disney’s Facility Asset Management (FAM) team rather than Walt Disney Imagineering, which strongly suggests this is more maintenance than a major overhaul.

Still, one detail caught our attention: the contractor. D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company is listed for the “general construction” work. The company is a long-time Walt Disney World collaborator. As you might guess from the “Wrecking Company” part, demolition is a big part of their business. Thankfully, we don’t expect Tomorrowland’s bridge to be reduced to rubble anytime soon.

That said, visiting D.H. Griffin’s website doesn’t exactly calm the nerves. The homepage greets you with videos of massive buildings collapsing into dust clouds. But the company has many divisions that also specialize in environmental remediation, infrastructure work, and industrial contracting. D.H. Griffin’s Contracting arm served as the main mechanical and electrical contractor for the Disney Skyliner project.

With Cinderella Castle’s moat currently drained for repainting work, Disney may simply be taking advantage of easier access to repair portions of the bridge infrastructure or the moat channel itself. Whatever the case, guests probably won’t need to swim to Tomorrowland anytime soon.
