Baby Elephant Born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
The Animal Kingdom elephant herd just got a little bigger. Nadirah, an 18-year-old African elephant, welcomed Corra, her first calf, on December 13. This 218-pound baby might be the cutest animal I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to find her on Kilimanjaro Safaris soon.

This is Nadirah’s first calf, so her sister Luna was on hand to provide moral support during the delivery. Other female herd members, including her grandmother Donna and her aunt Stella, will help raise the baby until she is about 8 years old. That’s the age elephants are considered to be independent.
Nadirah was also born at Animal Kingdom, making Corra the park’s first second-generation calf. Nadirah became pregnant nearly 22 months ago and was well cared for throughout her pregnancy. Cast Members will monitor mother and baby for a few days before introducing Corra to the rest of the herd.
