Astro Orbiter Closing in January for a Refurbishment
Magic Kingdom’s Astro Orbiter is closing on January 13, 2025, for a lengthy refurbishment. Tomorrowland’s spinner attraction won’t reopen until sometime in summer. Disney didn’t provide further details about the downtime, but the length suggests the ride will get more than a light refresh. Whatever the case, the work will require some unique planning — the ride sites atop the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.
We’d love to see the ride’s accessibility issues addressed. Mariann Bell detailed her concerns about Astro Orbiter’s ride vehicles. While you’ll see signs stating that those vehicles can accommodate 2 to 3 guests, unless you’re accompanying a child, you’ll be flying solo. That creates issues for those who need to ride with a companion. Mariann and her son were somehow able to do it, but it wasn’t a pleasant experience. I doubt they’ll ride again without vehicle upgrades.

Few Magic Kingdom guests ride Astro Orbiter. With TRON and Space Mountain so close by, why wait for a classic spinner that takes forever to load? Well, the Magic Kingdom views are spectacular. And it’s not like Disney World’s other spinners. Those rockets really lean into the turn. We recommend riding, but only if the line is short.
