Animal Kingdom Celebrates The Lion King’s 30th Anniversary

Want to feel old? Disney has you covered! They just informed us that The Lion King is turning 30 this summer. Disney’s Animal Kingdom will honor the film’s 30th anniversary with special merchandise, unique eats, a popcorn bucket, and an excellent meet-and-greet.

First up, head to Rafiki’s Planet Watch to hang out with Timon and Rafiki. The duo will be happy to provide hugs and pose for some photos. Aspiring artists can then learn to draw their favorite Lion King characters at the Animation Experience. Finally, be sure to pet some goats and other animals in the Affection Section before taking the train back to Harambe Station. That last bit isn’t part of the celebration, but never turn down an opportunity to pet a goat.

Disney popcorn bucket collectors will want to rope drop Animal Kingdom on June 10. The Pumbaa popcorn bucket will show up on eBay later that day. I kid, but it’s true. Disney Eats will be revealing the celebration’s Foodie Guide soon.

Finally, always make time for Festival of the Lion King. This show debuted decades ago but still feels fresh and exciting. The music, pyrotechnics, and stunts are beyond what you’d expect to find in a theme park show. Highly recommended. 10 out of 5 stars.

The Lion King’s 30th anniversary celebration runs from June 10 through September 6, 2024, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
